Det uppstod en vilja att ge sitt allt f\u00f6r det hotade fosterlandet. Folkets moraliska kurage var kategoriskt. De insamlingar som verkst\u00e4llts till f\u00f6rm\u00e5n f\u00f6r f\u00f6rsvarsmakten gav ett gott resultat. V\u00e4rdef\u00f6rem\u00e5l \u00f6verl\u00e4ts till staten som k\u00e4mpade med penningbrist.<\/p>\n<p>Att byta vigselringen i guld till en ring i j\u00e4rn var en hederssak. \u00c5uftf\u00f6rsvaret finansierades med de insamlade medlen. Till fronten s\u00e4ndes lastbilsvis med paket adresserade till &#8221;den ok\u00e4nde soldaten&#8221;. F\u00f6rutom de privata donatorerna deltog m\u00e5nga industriinr\u00e4ttningar, aff\u00e4rer samt oberoende av partitillh\u00f6righet olika f\u00f6reningar och organisationer i verksamheten.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d6ver 400 000 m\u00e4ns fr\u00e5nvaro fr\u00e5n det normala n\u00e4ringslivet och fr\u00e5n annan samh\u00e4llelig verksamhet fr\u00e5n oktober 1939 till l\u00e5ngt in p\u00e5 v\u00e5ren 1940 p\u00e5verkade hemmafrontens verksamhet i h\u00f6g grad. Kvinnorna n\u00f6dgades ta ansvar f\u00f6r m\u00e5nga uppgifter inom industrin och servicebranschen. Ocks\u00e5 lantg\u00e5rdarnas tunga arbeten hamnade p\u00e5 kvinnornas lott. Sorgebuden som kom fr\u00e5n fronten \u00f6kade kvinnornas b\u00f6rda. \u00c5uftbombningarna p\u00e5 hemmafronten medf\u00f6rde f\u00f6rluster bland civilbefolkningen.
